Kelda Van Patten is an interdisciplinary artist who has worked with a variety of media. In her recent work, Van Patten explores the space between art and craft through pottery. Her roots in ceramics go back to studying with Thomas Orr in 1994 at California State University, Chico and later with James Lawton at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She started throwing clay on the wheel regularily in 2005 and since then has taken numerous pottery classes and workshops in and around Portland and Central Oregon, including classes with Don Sprague at Oregon College of Art & Craft and Jessica Pluhar at the Multnomah Art Center. In addition to her own work, she is committed to teaching art to young people. She has worked with at risk youth for Caldera Arts and in middle and high schools in Central Oregon and Portland. She currently lives in southwest Portland and teaches high school art and ceramics at Hillsboro High School.
