“The ceramic vessel provides an intimate and relevant space to explore formal elements and principles relating to the metaphor of line. My current body of work follows a theme involving vessels that play with lines in nature. I am drawn to organic forms, such as the growth rings of trees, the intricate designs engraved by pine beetles, and the horizon line of the landscape. These patterns create networks of lines. Like a biologist or a poet, I am interested in observation and documentation of particular elements found in nature. I am especially drawn to roots and branching structures, such as plants or trees, bodily systems, and water ways. ”
